What is Idemitsu Lubricants America Corporation's Daphne Hermetic PAG
–Daphne Hermetic PAG (Polyalkylene Glycol) is a patented lubricant uniquely formulated for automotive air conditioning systems using R-134a or R-12.
•Why Idemitsu Lubricants America Corporation's Daphne Hermetic PAG was developed
–Worldwide push towards protection of the ozone layer and reduction of CFCs. OEM and Suppliers using R134a as refrigerant of choice.
–HFC Refrigerants are not compatible with traditional mineral oil, synthetic lubricants (i.e. PAG oils) are necessary
–Idemitsu’s customers asked for guidance in selecting a suitable replacement for use in the R134a A/C systems.  The result was Daphne Hermetic PAG lubricant series; developed to provide superior performance, longevity, and compatibility.
•Daphne Hermetic PAG requires an extra step in the chemical process which makes the product “double end-capped”
–Single End-Capped PAG is very chemically active
–Ester Oil (POE) components are organic acid and alcohol; which when exposed to high heat and moisture produce Hydrolysis
–Daphne Hermetic PAG is Double End-Capped structure is chemically inactive; very tolerant of high temperatures, and will not react to form harmful acids.

Daphne Hermetic PAG Lubricant Characteristics:

  • Highly refined hydro-treated parafinic base oil with special anti-wear agent.
  • Superior chemical stability with CFC 12 due to the extremely small amount of impurity in oil.
  • Using highly refined hydro-treated base oil, provided superior heat stability.
  • Superior solubility with refrigerant enhances oil system circulation.
  • Superior anti wear properties prevent wear of compressor parts, and enables efficient operations.
  • A High Viscosity Index decreases the viscosity-down at very high temperatures, which could cause a seizure.
The Daphne Hermetic PAG Series are synthetic lubricants uniquely formulated to provide unsurpassed lubricity, wear protection, chemical and thermal stability, and proper miscibility with ozone-friendly refrigerants, as well as R-12 in the case of retrofits.

The Daphne Hermetic PAG products were developed specifically to lubricate automotive compressors and system components where HFC refrigerants are used.
